It was a great honor to play with Mr. David Crowe and the Philharmonic, thank you so much for everything. I hope we will have a chance to work together again in the future.

David Crowe is an excellent musician, a very gifted conductor, with natural authority, persuasive and firm, but nevertheless gentle in his handling of musicians and and fine taste for musical style.
—Charles Bruck, Master, Pierre Monteux School for Conducting

When I grow up I want to become a singer and compose my own music. It was a dream come true to have it played last night. It touched something deep inside me. Thanks for making my dream come true.

Thank you for coming...to work on our composition with us.... I really enjoyed working with you. You are an excellent music teacher and I applaud you on what you have done.... Whatever you do just remember that the music you make is golden.

You opened doors about composition which I was afraid to open. Your willingness to work with me and my students made a distant dream of mine come true. You've been a beacon of light to me and others about venturing beyond our comfort zone in our classrooms. Thank you so much for your calm leadership, creative musical spirit and guidance through unfamiliar territory.
—Jennifer Frisina, Cellist and Middle School Orchestra Director, Charlotte, NC

All of your extra work showed such a flair for teaching and love of music, it was energizing to be around.
—Jennifer Sperry, Artistic Director, BrightStar Music Festival

Responses to "Mill Village: A Piedmont Rhapsody"

It's been a really exciting project, the most exciting thing I've been involved in with the symphony. At concerts people have cried. One person referred to it as a prayer. I'm still getting calls from people who've heard about it and want us to come out and perform it.
—Susan Miville, Director of Education and Community Outreach, Charlotte Symphony Orchestra

"Mill Village: A Piedmont Rhapsody" made me cry.
—Nancy Moore, Gaston Gazette

In addition to being aligned with our 8th Grade curriculum, it was perfectly suited for our program for several other reasons. First of all, our students were able to experience clearly the process of using history and story to inspire art. They also learned how music and musical instruments can be created with a brilliant and entertaining effect. And finally, they saw how multiple modes of presentation: narration, video and orchestra music, can help them understand an important aspect of our state's history: its people and their culture.
—Sheryn Northey, Academic Facilitator, Northwest School of the Arts, Charlotte, NC

There was a sense of community, dignity, beauty and sorrow in the history of the mills and textile industry. Your music spoke to the soul of the Piedmont community.
—Susan Perry, Adult Programs Coordinator, Mint Museum of Art, Charlotte, NC

It is so very clear that you have grasped who we were and are. Your music gave voice to the passion of this experience that was lived by people whose ordinary lives not only inspired their children and grandchildren, but also transformed a region.
— Lynn Rumley, Director, Southwide Textile Heritage Initiative
